Indian Housebuilders Give Away Cars
April 29th, 2008 by Lianne
Yesterday we talked about how housebuilders are feeling the effects of the credit crunch in the mortgage market, however, what can they do?
In India, housebuilders have started to give away cars to get more business, sounds good to me.
However, so far, housebuilders in the UK have resisted following their example or offering large discounts. As we reported yesterday, Persimmon has even said it will stop building on new sites if there are not enough mortgages to facilitate the work. The impact of this could be enormous but is a good move in my opinion. If supply is stopped then it will prevent further house price falls. I doubt the builders are seeing it as a good move though.
Despite this, naturally share prices in Persimmon fell.
